My name is Asha and I want to welcome you to my blog where cookery reigns supreme.
It is my philosophy that the ability to create great food is to live richly. Much like a good Scotch, a fine wine or a complex cheese, Kitchen Fairy is about culinary craft and passion. Through my artistry as a cook, herbalist, gardener and photographer, it’s my mission to inspire and empower you to create magic in your own kitchen.
I have been enchanted with cooking since childhood and was lucky to meet some amazing mentors that nurtured my culinary pursuits. With the support of family and friends, I made the leap from amateur to culinary professional a decade ago. My career includes work in fine dining, catering and as a personal and private chef.
I am familiar with both urban and rural culinary environments but have spent the majority of my career in the Piedmont region of Virginia. The pastoral setting of verdant forests, fields and mountains never cease to inspire me and the practice of supporting our local farms is close to my heart. My experience gardening and wildcrafting Appalachian herbs and edibles combined with readily available farm fare helped shape my affinity for the rustic elegance of provincial style cuisine. In keeping with my background the information featured on Kitchen Fairy favors organic, artisanal and “farm to table” principles.
Currently, I am living and working between Washington D.C., my families mountainside cabin and Charlottesville, VA. This latest chapter in life has inspired me to branch out and find new ways to express and share culinary passion. I absolutely love cooking for people and have been doing it for many years. Kitchen Fairy is my way to feed you by sharing the stories, recipes and lessons that I have learned along the way.
What’s with the name?
The label Kitchen Fairy was bestowed upon me by some very whimsical clients in their attempt to explain my culinary significance. The name stuck with me, and in fact I believe that anyone can be a “Kitchen Fairy”. With a pinch and a stir, a light dusting, a sprinkle of this and that, a melody and a little fire, you can bring something truly spectacular to the table.
